Employment Discrimination

Federal and Georgia state law protect employees from discrimination based on:

  • Race and color

  • Sex and gender

  • National origin and citizenship

  • Religion

  • Age (for workers 40 and older)

  • Disability

  • Pregnancy and family status

Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and Georgia law, employers are prohibited from making hiring, firing, promotion, or pay decisions based on any of these characteristics.

Employers are also prohibited from retaliating against any employee who reports discrimination, files a complaint, or exercises their rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

If you have been passed over for a promotion, demoted, paid less than your peers, or fired because of who you are — Hasan Claxton Law can help.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act aims to protect workers from sexual harassment at work. It prohibits unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that turns the workplace into a hostile or offensive environment—whether that conduct comes from a supervisor, a co–worker, or even non–employees.
